Motel sinks are sometimes much taller. Have never measured one, though.

Dad is having a helluva time getting down to the sink to wash his hands without griping and moaning about backache. I think I'll replace those cabinets with kitchen cabinets.

Just as overly deep sinks do.
The standard for kitchens are 36 inches to work at while bathroom cabinets are standard 32 inches for kids and so it's easy to wash your face. When I build bathroom cabinets for clients, I usually build them at 34 inches with their permission. I think the original standard for the bathroom ones was way back when you had a basin on top of the cabinet and 36 would have been to tall for folks to wash faces because they were shorter. Also if you mount a sink on top of the cabinet, it starts to get to high over 32 inches. It's amazing how many things evolved from history that don't make a lot of sense now.

Ah, the old joke about peeing off the bridge:

Guy #2: Deep too!

So you don't have to reach way up over your head to grab your coffee cup off the counter when you are sitting on the throne.
