40x rifle that "looks" like a pistol

I have several of the CMP 40x rifles and have always like the idea of a 40x pistol. The primary challenge was a stock in a centergrip. I modified a few factory Zytel stocks and finally just built my own. The overall length of the barrel is over 16" and the overall length of the gun is 26-1/4".

Looks like someone modified an XP100 trigger assembly to fit a 40XB rimfire? Cool idea

Very cool 'RIFLE'

So if a firearm starts life as a rifle receiver, has a barrel longer than 16.5 inches and over all length is over 25 inches, it is still a rifle even though it can be fired like a pistol and can not be shouldered. That is truly very cool! I mistakenly thought it had to have a 'pistol' receiver or undefined receiver.

Can I lawfully make a rifle into a pistol without registering that firearm?
No. A firearm that was originally a rifle would be classified as a “weapon made from a rifle” if it has either a barrel less than 16 inches in length or an overall length of less than 26 inches. If an individual wishes to make an NFA firearm, they must first submit ATF Form 1 (Application to Make and Register a Firearm), pay a $200.00 making tax, and receive approval of the application from ATF before converting the firearm.

Very clever! Did you make/modify the trigger linkage? Looks like the trigger assy covers up the mag well so single shot only? What kind of trigger feel (single/dual stage) and release pressure? Do you cut and rechamber the barrel leaving the choke intact or ?.

I used xp-100 trigger. It was always a single shot rifle. It still is a single shot rifle. The barrel was trimmed but it is longer than 16” AND this rifle is longer than 26”. Fun gun

Looks like fun! Nice project. You know you can get a 40XB chambered for 300 /win Mag right?

Thanks for the Idea

Although it will not be midgrip, I'm going to turn my Annie 1416 rifle into a no butt rifle. I have an extra thumbhole stock, which I cut the buttstock off, planning to use it for an Exemplar. I have not had any luck finding a right bolt Exemplar, so it will become a 'pistol like' stock for my 1416 rifle. The rifle will lose a little weight and be great fun to shoot! Thanks for the idea!!!!
