I found a few Partially Machined Conn Frame Forgings that at least Date back to 1984. I thought that the Rimfire Central Group might like to see a Forging.- Alan Aronstein

Thanks for sharing this with us. Pretty fascinating to see how many steps are required to go from raw steel to a functioning frame.

Here is a forging as forged with the mill scale.

This forging has been pierced and abrasive blasted.

On Alan's pictures, the larger round holes on the left hand side are the fixturing holes for the machining fixture. The upper hole id the datum hole and the datum was the base point for all critical dimensions. The datum hole wad mounted on a round pin and a diamond pin was used in the other hole. This precisely positioned the frame on the fixture. These frames are probably pre 1980-81 as the later guns had the datum hole reamed through and the frame then got a pressed in disc to plug the hole
