the barreled action isn't seating far enough in my stock, trigger group is also recessed because of this. all of these are supposed to accept .920 barrels as well as standard weight but mine doesn't look that way. i'll have to play with it some more tomorrow and see what a standard weight barrel look like.

Definately doesn't looked seated right. It's sitting way too high. Did you tip the barreled action in at a 45 degree angle to seat it?

That blob on the back of the trigger housing ain’t hooking under the shelf thingy formed by the inletting supporting the back of the receiver. You want the back of the trigger housing to contact underneath the shelf at the same instant the front of the receiver sets down on the inletting at the TD screw. I’ve also had to cut the rounded corners of the inletting square making room for the v-block to set down on the inletting in more than a few stocks.

I would try removing the barrel and trigger group from the receiver.
Then...
1. See if the receiver alone will seat as expected, including tightening the take-down bolt.
Adjust receiver inletting as needed

2. Add the trigger group and check that fit
Adjust trigger related inletting as needed

3. Add the barrel and see if that is the cause
Adjust barrel channel inletting as needed

Good luck!

If you aren't in a hurry and it seems like the inletting isn't right, send a couple of photos to the factory and let them decide if they need to replace it.

all above ideas have been tried and the pictures show the final results. I've been playing with 10/22's since 1964 and this one stock has a problem.
I've sent 2 e-mails to hornet with pictures taken from every angle and also left voice mails 2 times with no replies on either venue.
too much going on now to worry about it but if I don't hear from hornet by the time I really need it I WILL make it work.

I agree with what davidk said. Following his steps, one of those must be causing the problem.
If the bare receiver fits well, then the interference must either be with the trigger group or the barrel. If the receiver plus trigger fits nicely, then the barrel channel must be at fault.

Best of luck,
Dave

hornet

folks,
everything has been tried that davidk mentioned before I posted this thread. got a mail from hornet today and they said that this is the way they are supposed to look so i'll find the problem myself.
thanks for the help and i'll post later when I get it to seat correctly and include pictures.
still if anyone has a picture of a ruger receiver in a hornet stinger stock I would like to see it.
