Was trying some ely for the first time yesterday.
I noticed a hot plastic smell when I ejected the first shot. I thought "this is a different smelling ammo".

After firing 25 rnds I pulled the bolt and looked down the barrel. There was so much loose debris in the barrel that the wind was moving it around.

I put a wet patch through the barrel and it came out covered with a grainy substance that looked like small plastic grit and fibers.

Does Ely use a plastic buffer in thier ammo?

This just seemed to wierd.

That smell is the priming

Eley ammo all smells like that (PMC Scoremaster does too) What you see in the barrel is probably unburned powder.

"I love the smell of Eley in the morning, it smells like victory"

"Eley, the smell of success."

You get to like the smell when it shoots good for you. It does leave a lot of junk in the barrel but as long as it makes holes in the ten ring, I don't care what it leaves behind.

Eley aroma

The odor of success is actually the smell of the primming compound used ... The "junk" left in the barrel are just remainents of success ?

I thought that most of your Match grade ammo was lubricated with teflon (or something like it) and that was what the smell was. Wolf Match Target smell the same. I might shoot a piece of tupperware if I can load it and see. This is just an opinion.

Cleaning

Phil, You are right. I wouldn't touch the cleaning issue with a ten foot pole. Anal retentive issue aside.

Rod.
