Price history of 17 HMR? Was it ever at .15/round?

I'm new to 17 HMR and check the usual sources and gunbot has the default "Good deal" threshold (red text) = 15 cents per round.

Has 17HMR ever been that cheap or cheaper? How likely is it that we would see prices below $0.20 per round ever again?

I'm just wondering if I should stock up a bit now or wait and hope for better prices in the future...

Cabela's locally had lots of it in stock, but I think it was 30c a pop.

Future pricing who knows, but as they seem to have a lot of most thing except .22 then at some point they will need to reduce to shift.

I was thinking that when I ordered years ago, I could get it shipped for under $8/box

$11-$15 a box was the cheapest I was ever able to find it for locally. I sold the rifle a while back and just found a few boxes of Winchester in the safe.

I remember it for $8.99 a box. when I started shooting it

It then shot up to over $10 and seemed to hover at $12 for a long time. Where I am, the big ammo scare seemed to take 6 moths to get to us (I could buy anything I wanted where everyone else seemed to be wiped out), but once it hit, all that was left was .17 on the shelves for $12-13. Always fully stocked and going nowhere.

Then one day it was all gone. I have not seen any locally for about 7-8 months now. There's a few people buying it up for hoarder's sake. This I know because I could always get it without worry and once the .22 was long gone and there was nothing else to pick over, normally full shelves were empty in one day and have not returned yet. I was at a Cabelas 85 miles away today and they had tons of it. The local Fleet Farm was empty as usual.

How long has it been over $10 now? I have seen it from around $12-$15 Since I have been looking. Would have been nice to get them at less then 15 cents per round. At the current prices it seems reloading 223 would be a better performance per dollar value.

The price has been over $10 at Cabelas for at least 7 years. The last brick I ordered was around $110

Here in Northwest MT, it has been over $10 regular price for the past 6 years. Used to sometimes go on sale for 9.99 but now goes on sale for 10.99. Regular price varies from 11.99 - 13.99 nowadays.

I bought my 17HMR 597 in 2003 and I was getting the ammo for right about $7.50 or $7.99 per box on base, so no tax.

I think it was around 2010, I bought a case from a small shop because I was starting to see it at places like Dick's for $15 to $17 a box, and I think $12 or so at Walmart. That case worked out to something like $10.50 per box with tax.

Sale at Cabela's.

$10.99 for a box of Federal 17 HMR. V Max

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shoot...3Bcat104536080

Maybe 5-8 for shipping, depending on how many you order.

Cabela's also has other brands of 17 HMR available too, may as well go for it since you're already paying for shipping for the Federal!

$10

When it first hit the market I could find Hornady 17 gr VMax locally for $9.99 but you had to have good timing. A few "entrepreneurs" around here would buy it all and resell it at the gun shows for $15 or more. Midsouth Shooters Supply had it at $9.99 for as long as I can remember until very recently. I just bought a brick from them a week ago for $10.53 per box. $118 delivered.

I've seen it as high as $19 a box at Gander Mountain. Haven't bought any locally since I found Midsouth.

Edit: Just checked. It's out of stock at Midsouth now.

I'm finding CCI at Cabela's for 14 cents each. I am buying 50 rounds a day and having it delivered to the nearest store. Then after a month I"ll pick everything up. I don't have a firearm in that caliber yet but will in a couple months.

303lithgow, are you saying you're paying $7 per box of 50? My local Cabela's has lots of 17 HMR, but more like $14 per 50.
