how well can you guys shoot your UNmodafied rugers at 50yds? Can you hit golf ball size targets reliably?

I've had a few MK Rugers over the years (MK1, II, III) and found them very accurate to ranges beyond 50 yds. Once you get used to the trigger and feel of the auto you'd be amazed how far out you can walk bullets into very small targets.

Yes, I can hit ping pong balls at 50yds with open sights (from the bench) consistently with my 22/45.

They are quite accurate pistols!
However, mine has "custom" sights and a complete action re-work.

will the 5.5 bull barreled pistol be accurate enough to hit golf balls at 50 yds? Or would I need a longer barreled one? And what kind of optics would be needed? Red dot or scope? Thanks for all the replies!!!

Shot a 50yd slowfire of 10-10-10-10-10-10-10-10-9-6 with iron sight MkII. The six and nine were definitely not the gun.

Yes, it will.
And none, if you're well practiced.
A scope would be easiest. The typical red-dot would pretty much cover a golf ball at 50yds...but either would work!

$350 - $375 would be a very very good price around here. Most go higher.

The 22/45s are less expensive, no machining required on a plastic frame.

that is slightly out of my price range... $300 is the max I can pay.. What about the price of a used 22/45 with a 5.5 inch barrel? And I don't mean to sound repetitive, but would the 22/45 with a 5.5 inch barrel hit golf balls at 50 yards? I really want a .22 pistol but I want to be able to hit golf ball size targets.. Small budgets stink!

The 5.5" Target 22/45 sells for $259 at my local Sportsman's Wharehouse.

I have about $330 into this one...including the custom grips, sights, and complete trigger job, slingshot mod, magazine disconnect removal, etc...I did a complete "how to" workup a few months back entitled "22/45 mods, my way" if you end up with one, and want to tweak it a little.
