Question for the masses. Does this need to be shipped through an FFL or is the plate not considered a receiver?

The only part you would need an FFL for would be the receiver that had the serial number on it

That's what I figured. Crazy with it being only half of the receiver and lacking any portion of the firing mechanism.

Thanks for the confirmation.

If your Model 1897 receiver's serial number is under 172,000 it would fall under the pre - 1899 antique standards and not need an FFL.......in all but a few states.

That half, no. Only the half that has the lever, trigger, and the tang with serial number.

Then to qualify, where are you shipping to. I shipped an complete shotgun via the USPS to a gunsmith for repair and he returned it to me the same way. I presume he was a FFL, and was highly respected, dealing in repairs to very high grade doble barrel guns.

I have a Federal C&R license and a couple of years ago had a Marlin Mountie sent to me from somewhere in the New England states to me here in Texas via USPS. I don't know if it was true or not, but a clerk at the post office said that FFL dealers sent handguns by mail routeinly. I did order a S&W revolver cicra 1922, basically the same as a modern K frame, and it was sent to me via UPS?

This half has a S/N, but none of the other items mention. As for shipping, that's hypotheticalas as of right now.
