Bmag On game

I'm pretty disappointed today. Like many days in late season I went out hunting this morning. Predator hunting away from the truck. Squirrel hunting my way back. Anyway I recently bought my 3rd BMAG. Finally found a good shooter. Up until today I've only shot squirrels.. For many years I've killed everything DRT with a 17hmr and 20 grain xtp's. Well today on my 3rd set I called in 3 bobcats. I shot the biggest one broadside at 20 yards. It did a backflip had headed away having much trouble with an obviously broken off shoulder. I missed cat number 2 going away at 50 yards thru some thick brush. Cat number 3 stopped at about 80 yards for a last look and I put a round mid ship. Same back flip and off to the races. No blood. No dead cats. It's like it never happened. 25 grain Winchester. I sure wish they loaded the WSM with the 20 gr xtp. It looks like I'll be going back to my HMR or 22 hornet.

Wrong bullet. Try the 20gr. It kills better. The 25's probably went right through. Right after the first of the year, I killed a coyote with the 20gr-at a lasered 148 yards.

I agree. The 20 grain is a predator killer.

Also, bobcats are the most wired-up varmints out there. If they don't drop immediately, they normally cover a lot of real estate on their death run. I wouldn't be surprised if the two you shot are sitting dead within a 100 yards, or so.

No way an HMR is going to outdo a WSM. Its like saying I'm going back to my pellet gun. Use the 20gr or even the 15gr it will explode them apart.

Hard to compare a perfectly placed .22 cal or .17 HMR to a poorly placed WSM shot. Apples n oranges.

Many times, we equate a heavier bullet weight with a harder hitting, better killer. Not always. Bullet construction/expansion is far more important, and only behind accuracy in a particular firearm-to me.

I've killed a gray fox with a broadside boiler room shot with my .22 springer air rifle 16 grn pellet @ 800fps. If I had unfound runners with my 17WSM with poorly placed shots should I go back to the pellet gun TG?
btw-I only did it once because I knew I could and shan't do it again.

That a magnum springer you got there. I have a PCP that only does 880 fps with jsb 16s. I do get 40 shots though.

I want to get a turkey with my PCP some day.

I put a 20gr in the neck of a yote at ~20 yards and she made it about 100 yards, i will not stray from that Winchester poly tip for coyotes.

Last fall out driving in the pucker brush looking for squirrels when my huntin' partner says "there's a coyote". I go "where?". He goes "there". I get out, load the Bmag and look over "there". Over "there" facing me straight on, was a coyote at about 50 yards. When the cross hair went past his chest I pulled the trigger. I saw him flip over backwards. I work the bolt and says to my huntin' partner "where is he" and he goes "there". Then he says "good shot". Bang flop without even a wiggle. I says "yep".
