no hold-open on last shot, but mag gets released

I have a "new to me" Mark II with an aftermarket mag release.

On the first range trip, I noticed the bolt sometimes didn't hold open on the last shot, and sometimes the mag got released. Thinking back, I'll bet they both happened at the same time. I'm guessing the mag release spring is too loose or something. The mag pops out at the last shot, and there's nothing to push up on the bolt stop.

Any ideas? Is that a Volquartsen mag release? Thanks....

That looks like the Volquartsen mag release.

My guess is the spring probably fell out when the previous owner swapped the releases and then got put back in reversed.

Look in at the spring pin from below. The coils should be to the back and the legs should be on the front side of the pin. You'll need to flip it around if it's not.

Hint- It's easiest to install the release by inserting it well up into the frame ahead of the spring, then sliding it back to get spring pressure. The spring tends to pop off the release if you insert it too far back.

I won't be able to check the gun for a couple of weeks, but will try to report back on what I find.

TestEngineer and Edlmann, thank you both....

4 days with no reply to the OP's problem. And it wasn't Dennis that provided a possible solution.

This totally reminds me of a little hick town in northern Colorado. Every year they have a parade. You look at the calander and it's not New Years, July 4th, and they haven't won a championship. So you ask a local why they're having a parade.

They look at you with a straight face and reply: "IT'S WHAT WE DO!"

So let's have a parade!

Yeah SGW!!!

'twas just me admitting that I stole the pic. I did it for my own use years ago, but I thought I should admit my larceny if I shared.
