I find the 17HMR a ideal, when a .22LR is not enough and a .223 Rem is to much.

Mine is my farm gun so to speak. It's stainless and pretty much stays on my ATV. Use it mostly for undesirables like coyotes or red squirrels

I use mine for keeping the two Marlin .22 magnum rifles separated in the safe....and collecting dust.

I think they are really good for varmints up to coon sized animals, maybe small coyotes and foxes. I don't shoot foxes though, I kinda like them. A coyote is a different story, I shoot them with whatever I have.

Prairie dogs become muzzle blast smart so that is why I start out in the spring with the 17 rimfire rifles when there are plenty of shots within110 yards for the 17 HM2 and 160 yards for the 17 HMR rifles . This year I got a Ruger 77/17WSM for shots beyond 160 yards . Im still testing the WSM at longer ranges to see what sort of body splatters are like at the longer ranges. The muzzle blast of the three rifles is less than my CZ 17 Hornet rifle. Im retired so I go out when its not windy when using the 17 RF rifles. As the p dogs get older and smarter I might use a 17 Hornet, 17 Fireball , or 204 Ruger rifles . If you should come out to prairie dog country the 17HMR is a fine rifle to use before getting out the longer range center fire rifles..

I'm much the same.

Rabbits.

out to 50 meters the .22 first on the right

from 50 to 150 meters the .17HMR second on the right

from 150 meters to 300 meters the .223 third from the right

300 meters to 800 meters (just joking) the 7mm RemMag.

Except I don't really go shooting I'm just all talk.
