989M2 decision at the gun show

Right off at todays gun show there was a 989M2 with original sight plus a Tasco scope and six magazines for $300. I already have one so I thought I would see what else was there but if nothing else came up I might buy it. A few minutes later at another table was another one in similar condition with the original sight for $100 but no scope or extra mags. I couldn't pass that one up. I couldn't believe it was so cheap, only a couple scratches through the wood finish, otherwise near new. The same seller had a first year fingergroove stock Winchester 67 for $200 which he took off $25 if I bought both. So tomorrow two guns to test.

You got a great deal on the Marlin. Post a photo if possible.

You got a great deal on the Marlin. I'd buy everyone I see for 100 bucks. 989M2 was my first rifle. Unfortunately I sold to get a 10/22 back in the 80s. Still have that but I picked up 2 nice 989M2s to take the originals place. I really like the look and feel of the Marlin over the Ruger. Plus they are more accurate out of the box. THe 67 looks nice too. Enjoy them.

You found THE great deal!
989M2's aren't common where I live. I found one after years of looking. I have NO criticism other than no bolt hold open (on mine). It's a sweet, accurate shooter with classic engineering design.
Enjoy your gun!

Same here. To see two at the same small gun show was very rare. I think the seller was one of those people that just thinks every used Marlin semi-auto .22 is a hundred dollar gun. I love the amount of nice walnut used on these and the 99M1.

I love my 989M2. my dad bought it at Sears in Memphis in the mid 60s. probably has a gazillion rounds thru it. only had to replace the buffer twice. it is semi-retired now. only take it out once a year to get a few squirrels. enjoy it. lee

Ya done good!

Invariably, TASCO scopes are junk...I literally offer LESS if one is on a gun, because it's usually paired with cheap rings which also need to be thrown away. Have yet to see a used TASCO that will actually hold Zero...the first drop usually kills them.
