“Obsolete words and phrases “
I nominate:
1) Please
2) Thank you

These seem to have gone away about the same time as turn signal usage.

Guy I work with claims that he reads some sort of history book per week or so. I tend to believe him; he's very knowledgeable.

One day he was bummed that the copier in his office didn't work. I said...

Well dude, you can always just grease up the ol' Gutenberg in your basement, no?

He laughed. I knew he'd be one of the ~5% of the general population who'd get it.

Reading this list, I'm thinking that some of y'all are just a bit crapulous.

I could write reams of rants on the subject of smartphones. And I bet "ream" is becoming obsolete too - at least in this sense.

And I know what all those are - makes me feel old...

Another word I learned recently is "Taradiddle". Learned it from someone named "Tara" - it means "Pretentious nonsense". I make an effort to use it on occasion!

Personally, I hate it.
Was there a problem before? I have gotten to where I correct some of the millenials that espouse those words. YUK!!

I don't recall the meeting or circumstances at this point in time. Been to long ago.
But I used the term 'jew' talking about trying to buy something at a cheaper price in an EPA meeting in the '90s. When I was a kid, '50s, that was a common term and usage.

You would have thought I had used the N-word, or dropped the F-bomb in mixed company. I was called into the branch chief's office and chastised for my transgression. He was only slightly older than me, and had a hard time to keep from laughing while chewing me out.

What bothers me is the disappearance of the imperfect tense. Its not readily apparent since a lot of verbs use the same word for pat and imperfect, but when is the last time you heard” He pled guilty. . “ Everything now is so definitively finite!

A female friend who is a college instructor was late for her class one day. Getting there she apologized to the class saying she had been waylaid. One student filed a complaint saying she felt offended by her talking about her sex life.

Back in the day we said never trust anyone over 30, now that I am way past that stage I don't trust any so called educated person UNDER 30.
