Some dogs chase their tails. Sometimes we people do too. This is not a worthwhile project. Just too many problems and it seems like a foolish way to spend your money. If you want a long barrel on a Mark II, buy a custom one from Volquartzen that is built for the Mark II. Trying to force a round peg in a square hole reworking a 10/22 barrel just because you have it.

Started as a standard SS receiver that someone had cut and badly threaded in an attempt to make a suppressed hush puppy as detailed in some of the 22 magazines of the '80s (anybody else here old enough to remember those? lol).
Barrel stub was removed. An 18" SS 10/22 barrel was trimmed just in front of the (behind?) the notch used to secure it into the 10/22 receiver, turned down and threaded to fit in the mkII receiver.
Barrel was then indexed, and with a lot of cussing and wierd jigging a feed ramp and extractor slot was cut into the barrel on the mill. Barrel was then chambered, had the front sight moved back, and threaded for a suppresor
A fun project and just one of those things that happen when you have an extra receiver, an extra barrel, access to a lathe and a mill, spare time, and a running buddy who agrees that it would be a good idea. 😛

That is a very cool result. It may not have been cost competitive, elegant, or straightforward, but I admire the dedication and work that went into the project. Gunsmithing for the sake of saving a ruined gun is awfully cool. Great work.
I do find it interesting that the rear sight is still on the barrel. The sight picture must be quite busy, even with the rifle rear sight blade folded.
Would love to see more pics, including the barrel/receiver interface and the feed ramp, as a fan of custom work.

The sight on the barrel is actually the one used, the original rear sight is too low. The barrel sight is significantly taller than the receiver mounted one.

Thanks for the pics and the explanation about the sights. That is a really impressive project pistol.

Joat ,impressive project! Master machine work !!! If you put an adjustable Ruger rear sight on your receiver it may be tall enough to use with your front sight . MOS ruger 10/22 barrels have a dove tailed front sight so that could be changed to be able to use the sight on the receiver. How does your custom shoot ? Are you planning to D&T it for a scope mount?

Here’s my question.
Joat did you do this before or after I started this thread. If before,it proves I am not alone in the universe. If after... I guess the same. Thank you for showing us that the fantastic can be achieved. I could dream it , but you did it. You humble me.

Joat you appear to have a firing pin ding on you chamber at 12 o clock. You might want to check your firing pin stop in your bolt .
two many 22 this is the sort of project that can be done by a master machinist with a full machine shop and time on their hands. Not a casual project. If you fit that description by all means do it , if not look up Joat !

Too answer some of the comments posted....
I am a hobby gunsmith and casual machineist. A lot of the credit goes to my buddy Q who walked me through a lot of the setup and machining on this project.
I do plan on drilling & tappinging the receicver for a scope base to that effect I'm attempting to fabricating something similar to the XS lever rail with ghost ring for it and I am working on a detachable stock assembly for it. I'm playing around with adding bushings under the grip for it to hook onto...
This project was completed early 2014 (I think) so yeah, you're not alone.
And yes, that is a fp ding on the chamber face. A result of using a bolt without checking if all the parts were persent LOL.

The front sight IS dovetailed into the barrel but as the barrel was not originally a threaded one the front sight band was removed from the barrel, internally threaded and, after the the barrel was threaded, reinstalled.
It's a tack driver as long as I have something to rest the barrel on. Off hand it strings vertically as my wrists get tired very quickly 😄
