Have you tried a chamber iron? Unless someone removed the butt by grinding, it can be pushed back with the iron. Another option is to set the barrel back a turn and recut chamber proper depth. Take off barrels might not index correctly

Good suggestion (I have one), however seems this might no longer be an option...see HERE!

you can unscrew the current barrel and TIG or MIG it regrind the breech face and recut the chamber and all it would cost is labor ?

Well, the owner has his gun back and is apparently happy. I cleaned the chamber up as best I could, actually running in a reamer to insure that no metal was encroaching on the chamber. It still has an ugly divot, but it is digesting CCI Mini Mags with no problems. The firing pin stop was the original culprit, and replacing it at least stopped further damage. "Theoretically," I could have tig welded the divot up, but practically that is a very time consuming option of questionable efficacy. It would be extremely difficult to get the reamer centered to finish off the chamber, and how to match the metallurgy so that there is not a hard or soft spot on the breech face seems way beyond the pale for a Mark I. All is now well, and I do appreciate the multitude of comments and help on this project.

The other option is to set the barrel back a turn to create a short chamber and rechamber. Labor intensive, but will give a clean sholder.
