Mossberg 640M Chuckster
Well,
for a long time I was looking to buy a 640M but whenever I found one for sale on the Internet Gun Auctions they always brought well over $600.00, and I just couldn't see paying that much.
As of today the looking ended, I bought one at a local Gun Show. Stock and all metal show 95 to 98% of original finish. The stock has a couple small dings from use, but the rifle was used very little (and not abused). My complete cost, $400.00 . I think I got a pretty good deal. Only thing is, I wish it were .22 Long Rifle instead of .22 Magnum (would be a lot cheaper to shoot).
Don't know if I'm going to keep or sell .

While the .22 LR is cheaper to shoot, I've never shot a more accurate and pleasing 22 mag than my 640s'. Not often those "M" models surface...congrats !

Congratulations on a nice find at a good price. I've never seen one at a gun shop or a gun show. I always keep an eye out for one also. Enjoy!....John

Way under priced and I doubt anyone will find another at that price.
Thinking of putting my 640M and 340M on the market but surely not at that price.

I've been looking for a 340M & 640M at a reasonable price for some time myself. I've been the blind chicken that has found a kernel of corn in the past, maybe it will happen again.

I found one this summer that looks like it hasn't been shot. If I remember I think I paid $550.00 so one has to keep their eyes and ears open.

Which is most rare and hard to find, 340m or 640m, and does one command a higher price than the other?

I think the 340M is actually harder to find. I found my 640M at a local gunshow. It has some patina and has been used, but it is complete and in sound condition. The price I paid reflects its use, but I still think I got a fabulous deal.

I have seen several (4 or 5) 640m's in the past 10 years at gun shows down here... probably none in the last 5 years... and all over priced even back then...
I have never seen a 340m except in pictures....

I was lucky enough a year ago to come across a 340m at a local gun shop. I knew nothing about the rifle and was looking for something completely different but knew I could not leave without it. At the time I haggled down to $250 from $300 and still was uneasy about $250 for an older 22 I knew nothing about. This is my absolute favorite gun and see it as one of my best finds. Last weekend put a 4 power scope on (to pretty for a scope all the time) and 14 rounds in quarter bullseye. I struggle with the love of using it and the desire to not scratch it!

Got my 640M back in June or July for a good price, had one years ago and sold it so was happy to be able to replace it. Now the search goes on for a 340M

Never part with an accurate rifle except as a gift.
