CZ 457??? What was CZ thinking???

I went to the CZ Site a few months ago and noticed that all of the rimfire offerings that CZ had were gone. I then looked at what they offered. I was frankly shocked. I notice that what they sell now has some kind of split bridge action where the bolt handle runs through a slot in the receiver like an old fashioned child's rifle, ala Marlin or Stevens, etc. There's like quite a bit less than a zero chance I'd ever buy one of those. They HAD a good line of rimfires. I am sure glad that quite a while back I had bought my LH 452 American.

Sweet, more for the rest of us...I'm very pleased with my five and I'm not that easily pleased.

Ditto here. I only have three CZ’s and 2 of them are 457’s. A Premium in 22 lr and a Lux in 17 HMR. The other is a 452 UL. The 457’s are amazing shooters. The UL? Well nothing more needs to be said. I’d buy another 457. In fact, I’m looking.

I concur with gmd1950, that's fine, more for the rest of us.

I have three 457s, a Varmint MTR, Premium and a Lux. I really like all three of them and I certainly appreciate CZ for the 457 design for the various improvements it brought to their current rimfire lineup.

While, I am unable to follow gas-gunners observation on the receiver, I do agree my chances of buying a 457 are slim. Not even close to zero but pretty slim. If I did not already have a 452 and 453 and 455, then it would be different. And only becasue the 453 and 452 have become expensive and hard to find. My 455 did not work out as well as the other two. I am open to a Brno No1. Got an eye on one now.

The real debate and discussion took place back when the 455 was introduced. Or perhaps better to say when the 452 was dropped. It is done, over and for most -long forgotten. Like crying about the long lost styling of the Brno No1. Over and done.

Having said that, there is no joy in posting on ANY BRAND specific forum and saying you hate the brand. It wont fly on the Ruger or Anschutz forum or cz or anywhere else. The OP will be pummeled and if he cannot man up and take the beating the thread will be closed.

He'll hardly be pummeled, just disagreed with, some folks take disagreement as a personal affront, tragic attitude.

One other point. Back when the 452 was dropped it seemed worth posting and discussing (or argue) with the hope CZ might listen and maintain the 452/3 line.

The is virtually no chance to have CZ reintroduce the 452 and even less chance that forum members will stop buying new cz. There is a definite zero. There is no point in posting. We lost. It is over.

Actually, I am looking forward to see what CZ does with Colt. It could go very good or not.

He has the right to his own opinion. I like the earlier models like the 452 and 453 better too. That does not mean I would not buy a 457. I do disagree with him about Marlins being a childs rifle. They made some really high quality rifles that sold for a reasonable price. I wish CZ would offer more left hand rifles but I would wager they dropped them because sales did not justify production costs.

I also prefer the 452/453, may or may not ever own a 457 (I've handled most of the models but haven't seen one that I felt like I wanted to bring home). But, the fact that CZ no longer produces the 452/453 doesn't change my life at all. There are plenty of them out there to be had, and at approximately the same prices as the equivalent 457 models.

I personally dont think theres any real difference in all models of CZ , 452-455-457, some models are gonna shoot better than the other models. Theres been several 457's do well in competition lately on the national level at that. I also dont think coming to CZ forum and posting negative comments is a good idea either.

I have four 452’s and three 457’s. The two most accurate are my favorites. One is a 452. The other is a 457.

I have 452s, 455s, and a 457. The only ones I have had accuracy issues with are the 455s. All my 452s are accurate, some better than others but all shoot a variety of ammo fairly well. My 455s have not been nearly as accurate. The only 457 I own is a scout and it shoot decent with CCI standard velocity.

I'm also more in the one&done camp;

My 452 American shoots wonderfully, and is perfect in its natural habitat:

My 455 American didn't do quite as well with .22LR, so I put on a .17HMR bbl instead:

I'm exceedingly happy with both of them; great lines, good scopes, good triggers, good accuracy; very pleased overall and have had no further needs in that department.

Try one Gas!

I'm 60 years old and a harsh critic of anything new. The 457 is a really nice rifle and a huge bargain at it's price. Has a independent bolt stop. A good adjustable trigger. Recoil lug. Feeds and ejects very well. Not heavy or bulky. Fast lock time. Rigid receiver. Barrel seems to be well mounted, no issues with shifting zeros. Nice choice of stocks/barrel lengths.

you might end up really liking the 457, if not, there are lots of the older CZs on the used market.
