Well its rainy and cold so I didn't hunt and figured I would re-arrange the safes. I pulled out all of my 580 series rifles minus the custom 541 currently being built. I love these rifles thought I'd share a pic. Left to right

The bigger brother 788 .243
541thb
My absolute laser 541t
Centerfire converted 591 in 20 junkyard
Centerfire converted 580 in 22tcm
Centerfire converted maple 581 in 221 fireball
Early model 582
581 refinished
Another 581 refinished
591 with the Schroeder cf bolt head
592 with a polished barrel

These have all been little pet projects over the years, accurized or refinished, rechambered, re barreled....something of the sort.

That's actually the second attempt at a rifle chambered in this round. This time it's a pretty decent shooter. The first was the tcm rifle which I have a several page thread on saubier modifying.

I get like 3000fps out of 34 grn Dogtown bullets. Shoots about 3/4 inch groups at 100

Those 788s are the gateway gun although mine took a while to bleed over to the rimfires. Actually owned a 581 years ago, restored another and gave to a friend for his son, then picked up one to keep on a trip to a shop to look at a shotgun. Next found a clean 582 that makes me think I need a 580.

I did 2 of them and bought one already done. I got the basic prints off of james calhoon and made my parts to fit off of his drawing packet.

I've gone through a few of these over the years; the first one being a LH 581.
I also had a 580 long ago and it went down the road when I "needed" something else.
Yesterday, in a weak moment I bid on another 580 in a nearby auction, and "won" it. I'm supposed to be in the reduction mode . . . . . . .

It has no serial number, so it should be pre-'68 GCA. It also appears to have the more desirable walnut stock. What struck me was the fact that someone had it set up for good target aperture sights.
I'll see what the trigger is like when I pick it up on Tuesday.

Very nice looking rifle. I have a first year production Walnut and no serial also. Good Luck! Enjoy. And you lucked out. Looks like the rear sight is complete. Many of them are missing parts.
