CZ 457 Varmint MTR as a benchrest shooter

New to the benchrest shooting sport. I have been using my CZ 452 American .22LR factory original except for some trigger work. Thinking about taking things to the next level without totally jumping into the deep end. What do folks think about the CZ 457 Varmint MTR as a benchrest gun? Is the factory trigger good enough for benchrest competitive shooting? What do you think about the factory stock? Looking for ideas on scopes that would be good to mount on a gun like this good to 200 yd shots. Want a decent scope that will not break the bank. Lots of questions but want to take advantage of all the knowledge and experience on this forum. Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

First off how does it shoot now? Have you tried shooting it with good match grade ammo to see how it shoots? Kind of hard to improve on something without knowing it's current capabilities.

I have both a 452 American and a 457 MTR. The 452 American is the better shooter, sample of one. I think the MTR’s stock is over rated for bench shooting what with the cast off in the stock. I bought a bipod and monopod for the MTR. If it doesn’t shoot better with this setup I’ll probably sell it.

I’ve only shot one MTR, and with the ammo tested it certainly wasn’t more accurate than my CZ 452 American.
Can anybody shed any further light on the performance of the “MTR” chamber?

The MTR chamber was supposed to be the tightest allowed by CIP specs. In the case of my own, performance on target has been average. My rifle has shot better with a Lilja bull barrel than the factory barrel. Just another data point.

Three of our top local ARA competitors are shooting CZ457 MTR's and all are using Eley or top shelf RWS ammo.
