782 for the collection!

I picked this one up from my FFL yesterday - a win on GunBroker last week. It joins my 781, 989M2 and 990 Ducks Unlimited. I also have an XT-22M, but really like the older rifles with the real walnut stocks. This one has a few dings, but no rust and nice bore. It was pretty clean except a previous owner must have been an M1 Garand guy because the bolt had a lot of grease on it It came with a Bushnell 3-9x scope but I'll swap that for a Weaver I have in my drawer. Added bonus is the original Marlin leather sling!

Nice score, that sling alone is selling for $75 to 100 bucks. Looks like the rifle is in great shape, should make a good shooter. Nothing better than a Marlin 22 Mag IMHO

Nice find ! FWIW - When you sample various ammo to test for group sizes, include a box of 50gr Federal. My 782 groups those better than any other; 45gr Hornady next best.

Thanks guys! Couple more pics. I stripped the stock - it was pretty dinged up - and applied a coat of Feibings medium brown leather dye. It darkened it a bit, but evened out color nicely without covering up the grain. Love walnut! It has three coats of BLO, 4 more to go. The scope is a vintage Weaver V9 AO.
