Thank you folks. I'll try some of the ideas tke some picks and play it by ear. The rail that I have is apparently somewhat inusual as None of the other rails I have found fit this reciever. At one point a call to weaver revealed that my reciever was an early run that their machining didn't account for. Their plan was live with a two peice or take a grinder to the rail. Neither was acceptable to me so here we are.

Most every one I have is anodized; both new-made and those from 50 years ago.

EZ Off oven cleaner will remove it, they are anodized and about a .001 deep. make sure to do it outside. Bob

Most OEM's over the last 30+ years have been Painted.. ya might check that. Cut off date for anodized was way way back.
