CPC 17hm2 10/22 bolt

Does anyone know where I might could find a weighted bolt for use in the 10/22 17hm2 conversion? CPC use to offer this service but not anymore.

I'm using a heavy bolt handle now and it does the job but I'd prefer the weight be behind the cartridge rather than hanging off the side.

thanks,

It should be around 240 grams give or take. It will work up to 260 grams. 8.45-9.2 oz

SwampFOX, I have the VQ bolt and it works for me. Rimfire Sports lists it on their web page. That's where I got mine a couple of years back.

That'll be a last resort at $215. Wish I could try one out first lol. What length barrel are you using and have you done anything else to help tame the pressure? Moly fusion/heavier springs/KID 2 stage trigger???

thanks,
swampy

I'm using a VQ barrel with it. I have a Ruger trigger with a Brimstone Tier 2 job on it. I haven't done anything else in regards to pressure. I have only put about 300 rounds through it so far. I just make sure to keep the chamber clean. I haven't seen any issues yet.

Great!! I too have a VQ barrel. It has been moly fusioned and has magnum springs so that bolt should work just fine for me. Gonna have to build and sell some triggers to afford it though. How is the ejection on your rifle? 2 o'clock, 3 o'clock ect? Using my heavy JWH handle, my cases spit all over the place. No consistency at all. Sometimes they barely clear the chamber. thanks, swampy

I built a Power Custom conversion around 2004. Carbon fiber 16" barrel, heavy handle and spring. Shot it for years without a problem but noticed cases looked bulged and case head was rounded on back. Put a JWH bolt in that was "headspaced" last year and in 30 rounds blew the mag out of it twice with total case head seperation. Gun was clean but suspected OOB so cleaned chamber good and shot some more with same results. Problem seemed to be isolated to some old Hornady ammo purchased in mid 2000's.

I don't trust the semiauto's in this caliber now. It's a shame it is by far the most accurate rimfire at 50 yards I have. Good luck but in this caliber I think a bolt gun is the way to go.

I have a bolt lock if it comes down to it. I can lock the bolt closed and work it like a bolt action if I absolutely have to. swampf0x

I wouldn't mind having that option. What all does that entail?

Not sure if they are still made but read here. http://www.silencerresearch.com/jg_bolt_lock.htm

These are not recommended for the 17hm2 but Skeeter27red tested it with good results. I figure......no more than I'll be shooting this rifle, It should be fine. I have also seen metal blocks that go behind the bolt handle and wedge against the receiver to prevent cycling.
