My first handle

A friend of mine gave me this little blade that he picked up in Japan. I am not a knife maker and I have never made a knife handle before but I thought that I would give it a go. Let me know what you think and any advice or tips would be appreciated. Take a look:

I started with some drawings and decided that I would make a brass guard.

Cut some spacers and drew out the handles on some burlap micarta that I had left over from another project.

Making sure it all fits.

Rough shaped the handle and glued it together. After applying the epoxy, I realized that my clamp wasn't long enough so I improvised and used my drill press as a clamp.

More shaping and polishing results in this:

Well, how did I do? Please feel free to give positive or negative feedback...I'm trying to learn.

Looks good to me. Is that a laminated blade? Should be a great all around hunting and camp knife.

The blade is laminated (or something?). I'm not sure exactly how the blade is constructed but the center is extremely sharp and has held the edge very well with the limited cutting that I've done so far. I will ask my friend if he can tell me more about the blade the next time that I see him.
