Sunday 25 yard iron sight practice 9/6/2020
Score: 462-7X
Name: 72coupe/Roy Woodman/73
Location: Wichita Falls, Tx
Gun: RPRR
Set up: Iron Sights
Ammo: Wolf MT
Individual Target Scores: 90, 97-3X, 93-2X, 84, 98-2X
Notes: Had a 5 and 4 eights on one target. I shot a Highpower match on Saturday and shot the highest score of my life, 487-14X with my AR.

50 yard iron sight practice
Score: 192-1X
individual target scores: 42, 44, 40, 33, 33-1X
Notes: My front aperture is just too large for 50 yards. It is one of those adjustable ones but it barely gets large enough for 25 yards but it certainly does not get small enough for 50 yards. Oh well only a poor workman complains about his tools.

Scoreboards-Aug

August boards are up guys.
Sorry for the delay, been without power, water, etc for a few days amid the fires here. Feel fortunate we still have a roof over our heads, some of my neighbors were not so lucky. At least all got out ok with their lives.
Internet does not seem so important amid the real problems.

Good shooting this month everyone !
All the best,
Bob4BVM

**** 25 Yd Scoped ENTRY **** 9/11/20
SCORE: 465-10X
NAME: zukiphile, 54
LOCATION: Ohio
GUN: CMMG 16 inch HT
SIGHTS: 1x prism
AMMO: Agu.SESV
INDIV. TGTS SCORES: 92-1X, 92-4X, 96-0X, 92-1X, 93-4X

Cool, overcast, slight rain and little wind. 1st and 3d had no 8s.

Understanding that my scores are worse than average here, I make the following observation in the hope that it helps someone, or leads to a diagnosis about something I am usually doing wrong.

On the target posted above, I made an effort to stop aiming, Instead, I got the dot on the target and just concentrated on a smooth trigger press with follow through. The result was much better than usual in a way the numerical score may not fairly represent. there were radically fewer "mighty tugs" with only one 7 for the entire sheet. Using that same method, the next sheet was a 464 with no 7s.

Second shot of the target was an 8. Did better after that.

Zuk—seems like you’re onto something with you’re new way of getting the shot off. It’s fun learning little things that help. Seems to work better the more you shoot. Just recently I’ve been getting on target and waiting for my best hold and if the gun doesn’t go off by a count of ten I let down and start again. Seems I have too many bad shots if I hold too long. Good luck with it.

That's interesting inasmuch as it indicates that each shot fired gets its own separate ritual.

I could try to replicate that by checking the spotting scope after each shot. My habit is built on pistol shooting in which strings are shot at a moderate cadence. Maybe that's a mistake with a rifle.

Yes sir. For each shot I start by checking my feet and proceeding through my process till the gun goes off. If it takes too long I start over.

Saturday 25 yard iron sight practice 9/12/2020
Scores: 478-15X,92-2X, 97-3X, 94-1X, 99-5X, 96-4X, one 7, One 8
472-16X, 97-3X, 91-2X, 97-4X, 95-5X, 92-2X, three 8s
Name: 72coupe/Roy Woodman/73
Location: Wichita Falls, Tx
Gun: RPRR
Set up: Good iron sights
Ammo: Wolf MT
Notes: Good conditions for shooting, 75°, high overcast (not clouds, smoke), wind very light most of the time. I may try again tomorrow.

That first target could have been better. The front sight I bought came with a magnifier and I tried to use it for the first time. It makes the target very large and I can't really use the front apperture as it disappears in the black. My first 5 shots were one 7, one 8 and 3 low 9s.

Hello everyone. Its been a few years since I last shot any offhand and I've missed it. Lots of life experiences have kept me away, but I'm going to make a concerted effort to shoot this regularly. Beautiful day to shoot here and though my score won't impress anyone but me, I'm pleased I only shot a single zero!
Jeff

Welcome. This is a helpful and friendly crowd, and the focus on a specific objective makes this all more interesting.

You've a beautiful rifle. I had one, but never put the BRNO aperture sights on it. It takes a car with a bigger trunk than I have in order to live with that 29 inch barrel.
