I in no way think that this rifle is an official Anschutz killer in performance. What I wanted to build was a competitive CZ 457 rifle at a cost well below the Anschutz, mission accomplished. I have a Win 52C as well as a 40x Position rifle and while they each have their own personalities my scores are about the same day in and day out with them. I hope to have the CZ hang right in there with them, that was my goal for the project. After all what is life without a looming project on the horizon?

+1 One could probably get a 10/22 upgraded to out perform a factory anschutz. Perhaps an interesting thread would be how anschutz upgrades to out shout X?

Nice looking set up and I hope it does shoot well for you..............

If you compare 10-Anschutz & 10-CZs, the Anschutz rifles will come out on top accuracy wise.

A good Win 52 will hang with the best of them

I understood what you meant when you said Anschutz killer. It's always fun to do projects like this with hopes it'll perform at (or exceed) the level of much higher priced equipment. I'm sure it was a fun project for you and I bet it'll perform well too

30 or so years ago I bought an old (beat up) Remington 513T. I refinished the wood and metal and did a little customizing. It actually shot pretty well and it was my low budget "Anschutz Killer". One day a friend lent me his Anschutz 1413 and told me to go shoot it. I brought out all my good ammo and shot that rifle head-to-head with my 513T. Guess what? They both shot really well that day. So you never know...

I see no point in paying up the big cash cow for Anschutz when my CZ457 is plenty enough gun for me. I`m not trying to split hairs with a 22 rimfire anyway.

Last Anschutz used in our local BR match was a MPR. That shooter cleaned both ARA factory targets like it was nothing. Didn’t even need a plug.

Good job.

Nothing wrong having a goal and the goal should be a high one.
A have a 54.18 Anschutz and try to make my other.22 rimfires perform as good,it is a goal....I did a good job on some of them, even 10/22...
I think it is great to have fun, make something and enjoy it,Thank you for posting.

Nicely done, looks good. If you refit it with a custom barrel at some point, you can make that rifle give an Annie a serious run for her money.

Wow! Cool stuff! You should market that MJT rear sight base...hell the front base and extension for that matter as well. I've got sights like that mounted on an AR22 w/CMMG bolt w/dedicated 20" barrel. That thing is a hoot to shoot. What did you make the front sight tube extension out of; AL or STL? Very cool project! Thanks for sharing.

I wanted to build a pretty serious position rifle at a cost that a person could afford to get started. What it turned into was more than I expected. I started with a normal CZ varmint 20", I turned the barrel end and threaded it 1/2-28. I spun up a sight extension tube for it, then machined a front sight post to accept the Lyman front sight (an affordable sight), I then turned my attention to the rear sight a MJ 90 series sight. I machined a rear sight base that uses the standard CZ receiver dovetail so it could be easily removed and a scope installed for certain events. With the sights installed I tuned the trigger to 1.0 lbs with some of my trigger springs and the kind of engagement I like. I dropped the barreled action into a KRG Bravo stock with an adjustable butt plate. I installed a Turner position sling and machined a Nylon hand stop that would adjust in the M lock slots. I only had time to get a zero at 25 and 50 but will shoot some offhand groups and post them on this thread later. I will say this the accuracy with irons is pretty impressive.
Very nice job! I have pondered doing much the same thing.
Please let us know how it works out.

I do know that sometimes that all the stars are aligned CZ 457 MTR @100yds. Don't know if I can do it again but our match at 100 yds tomorrow will let me know.

I made the sight extension tube out of 70 series alluminum, I didin't like the balance with a stainless steel version.
