Why I hate people

I sell appliances for a living, not glamorous but someone has to do it.

I just fielded a phone call from an irate customer who was upset because we arrived to deliver his fridge during our state time window.

The customer told me that he got a call this morning at ten to nine telling him that our team would be there between 10 AM and Noon. So what does our hero do? Settle in to wait? Watch soap operas? Noooooo. He goes to church from 9 to 11. When the delivery guys show up at 10:30 they knock on the door, call his phone, and then call me. I try calling and his cell phone doesn't have voice mail set up.

So now the guy calls and is very upset because we didn't tell him that he was going to be the first stop. So? They gave you a two hour window, why didn't you stick around. "I wanted to go to church from 9 to 11."

I moved his delivery to tomorrow and told him that delivery would call in the morning. He said, "Well, I have to go to church tomorrow." I hung up on him.

The thing is that if when told that delivery was going to be between 10 and noon, he had said, "Hey, I'm supposed to go to church from 9 to 11," they would have worked with him

I think about that all the time. I also think about the fact that I'm in the 95th percentile and I barely have a clue about what's going on and wonder how those in the 50th manage.

I hear you, man. It's so hard to not become cynical and jaded toward people who seem ever self-centered and entitled. My motto has become: "People suck...but sometimes they don't."

I try to be cynical, but it's hard to keep up.

Great man, can you hook me up with a 36" , six burner Wolf stove?? Mine is pushing 22 years old and my sister in law just got a new one. Wow, what a beauty, but they changed the burners.

I can deal with self centered, it's the stupid that gives me the greatest grief.

I worked in a hardware store in Chichester for a year, many years ago now - and I'd agree totally. Luckily I was in the tool section, and most of the week it was tradesmen who not only knew what they wanted, but already knew what we stocked. That was fine. But at weekends..... < sigh >

Even if you had them, there are no discounts on those stoves. Strictly MSRP. Believe me, I tried. I just keep on fixing mine when need be. I've gotten pretty good at it. Either oven ignitor or thermostat. I'm at the point where all the new stuff I bought 20 years ago, ain't so new anymore. Fridge, dishwasher and stove all still working after 20 years is not so bad.

One would think that the guy...yeah, well, they're everywhere. One of my favorites so far is one of my son's story about stain. He works in a hardware store in the paint department. People come in to buy stain and don't understand that all the paint has to be sanded off first, before applying the stain. They'll point to the samples and ask why, if the samples look like wood grain. These people are in their 50s and 60s and one would think that they knew at least that much. If I worked there I'd tell them to hire a painter. That would get me fired, though.

Some folks are ignorant and willing to learn while others, not so much. The others you can tell em but you can't tell em much.

As a student I worked endless low end jobs. Without going into specifics, the ones involving human interaction were always the worst! Having said that, sometimes people will surprise you with amazing kindness and generosity. It helps to keep that in mind when you run across the more typical human being with a chip on their shoulder.
