At a garage sale, covered in dust.
Not Cody quality however a well used original rifle and... $50.00! Where's 22AGS when I need him? Well, to he and NOREMF, let's clean this ole girl up and preserve her.

Necessary Big 45 Pad

Everybody in the pool for a bath!

No beauty queen and no barrel date :-(

Finish looks original!

Proof Mark

Some of the finish is coming off, let's just clean the dirt and seal the stock as is

This stuff on the entire rifle!

She's been well used

Oops no picture but the butt plate is fair to the stock and the stock hasn't been sanded (and no bill under the butt plate)

Her bore is pristine and bright, and has a good firing pin Here's to another 80-90 years of good service.
Edit, I can see the barrel date under the spring just can't make it out, looks to be 31

That is the way I like to clean up an old rifle. Now it looks like honest wear and not so much neglect.

He had a heart attack then a stroke. I wish I could offer some good news however he's in an assisted living facility with some (looks like) permanent damage to his left side. We had lunch a few weeks ago (now that the facility will let him out) I've sorta put this rifle aside in the hopes he can use it as a project someday. I've got a lot of his .22's ready for him should he want them.

Do not know 22ags but wish the best for him..

I too usually only do the minimal that needs to be done..I despise cold blue and such..I try to leave as much original as possible with the projects..Sometime that is not possible like my last one..A rusty barrelled action from a Winder Musket..Had to do alot to this one

It is now relined and Chambered in .17 Mach II

Flys,

Great Score! And definitely a 22AGS rifle.

Good luck with your project and keep us posted on the outcome!
