Model 61 purchase opportunity

Log in to see fewer ads
I took this rifle in to clean it up a bit for a friend. It had some very light rust in all the nooks and cranny's from sitting in a closet for decades. Just took a bit of scrubbing with oil and a nylon brush to clean most of it off, a few areas needed a brass brush. All in all it cleaned up pretty darn well with no finish loss or pitting under the rust.

1954 manufacture, scope rail on receiver, mechanically it appears to have been fired very little. I have the opportunity to purchase it for $500. It appears to me that the front of the magazine tube has been re-blued at some point. Any opinions on that?

I know next to nothing about these, but I do know that my grandfather had one of these model 61's and it was the first gun I ever shot so I do have a soft spot for this one. Any estimations on market value? It can be hard to guage prices in these times.

-Suspect reblue at end of magazine tube can be seen here:

It's a very nice looking Winchester 61. It was worth well north of $500 before you ever saw it (even if your suspicions are correct).

Very nice. Mine was made in 1954 too, but it cost me way more than $500.00. I would not hesitate to buy it!

I would not hesitate. My 1947 Model 61 was a lot more than $500. You have to buy when the opportunity shows up or you loose and regret it.

Well worth the asking price. Can't go wrong at that bargain price...especially since you express an interest in owning one.

The best slide action rimfire ever built in my opinion.

My only question is why aren't you holding it now?

Probably get twice that on GB right now.

Grooved receiver with steel bull plate, most desirable of the reg S,L,LR 61 configurations.

Enjoy that rifle and the feeling that goes with knowing that you purchased something that is top quality, that will give you years of enjoyment, and the knowledge that you can more than get your money back out of should you ever decide to sell.

Try that with fishing tackle.
