I looked on Ruger's web site but can't find a list for older numbers. Any other sources of info?

1991 Mfg Heavy Barrel

I have a change to get a 10/22 with a heavy barrel made in 1991. Our range is still closed to I can't test it. Most things I read, say it will probably be less accurate than current production barrels. Are you folks finding that to be true; that newer barrels shoot better than older ones??

For real early numbers you should call Ruger. I have a like new 4 digit that was actually made in early 1965. Many 4 digit rifles were made in 1964.

Not necessarily Hank. I have two 10/22s one made in 1978 and one made in 1989. The 78 model shoots just over 1/2 inch groups at 50 yds while the 89 model would be lucky to shoot 1 inch groups (these being stock). Needless to say the 89 model got a new GM barrel. I suspect what you are talking about happened in certain years but am not sure when they were.
