Nikon Scopes Gone ?

Newest rumour. Nikon will stop manufacturing rifle scopes in January 2020. The rumour came from a Facebook page discussion. It came from 2 sources in the camera business. Nikon will concentrate on spotting scopes and binoculars. Iíve heard nothing anywhere else.

You can go back and find threads from 2008 claiming the same thing. Pressure from all the liberal Nikon camera users. Who knows if it is true. Iíve only seen one store with Nikons on clearance and the small number of models couldíve been model turn over.

Rumor or not, the Nikon 3-9x40 w/ AO that has their EFR (extended focus range, ie, 10 yrds +) this made w/ .22 in mind is on sale now for $130 vs reg of $190.

Got one a week ago... ordered a 2nd one which is in the mail.

I saw it at Cabs and at Zons.

Doug from Cameraland NY said that Nikon will no longer make gun scopes after the first of 2020, so I'd believe it to be true.

A google search showed there was a similar rumor about Nikon in 2010. Let's hope it dies of loneliness.

Well, true or not . . .

. . . this is probably a good time to purchase a Nikon product if you have been sitting on the fence for a while. When they are gone - they are gone.

Far better to have one now than searching for a product no one wants to get rid of.

I don't know anything about how industry works, but the dramatic, wide-scale discounting of that scope makes it seem that Nikon is making a move.

I was hoping the move might be towards even more (smaller and lighter) rimfire scopes. I did order one of the $129 ones though. I have 3.

I wouldn't buy one unless it's a great price and you can afford to throw it away someday.
They will claim they have no parts if it needs warranty work in the future.

The industry is constantly coming out with new or updated models and putting the old model on clearance. The Prostaff EFR was released at the 2012 SHOT show and has been updated to the P3 name since. Nikon pricing is stable across retailers with a strictly enforced MAP policy. This model EFR had a price drop from $190 to $160, then to the current $130, roughly 15% and 30% off. This step down pricing is commonly used by Nikon to clearance old product. Youíll see this each year with Nikon.

The number of companies bending to soccer moms in the last couple years and the increased market competition makes this rumor more plausible now than before.

Try this. Scroll down a bit, it is the last of the three scopes listed.
