Our trip to Geezer Corral

My wife won a $25.00 gift certificate to Golden Corral, so a few nights ago we figured we would go have supper there, haven't been in one for years. When we got to the cash register, we were astounded to find that supper for two was $38.00 bucks!!! Got to looking at the ticket, my glass of water was $2.75. Food was standard tasteless mess hall buffet, I got a piece of chicken but was so greasy I couldn't eat it. Had some veggies and a little piece of pie.

Anyway, we could have gone to a real restaurant for $38.00, no more GC for us. Used to be THE place to go for an inexpensive meal, lots of seniors went there regularly . Things have changed.

Thanks, but the fuel for the 130 mile round trip makes it a little less cheap.

We went there only once. TOTALLY unimpressive! The food was subpar. Oh, but the ambience...

The ambiance the one time we went there was set by the four "construction " workers (or at least they tried to project that) that were at a table a couple of rows away from us. They were all very large guys. It was summer and all four wore shorts and T shirts, and the two facing away from us were showing massive butt crack. I asked the circulating waitress to have the manager say something to them about it but, fortunately, they left before the manager got to them. We haven't gone back there.

Some of the Golden Corrals are better than others, a lot depends on where they're located and who they're managed by. The larger ones have a better selection of food. The prices have gotten steep for what it is though. I'd rather go to one of the local Mexican restaurants, you can get much better food for the money in my opinion. And you usually get more than you can eat unless you're a pig (like me ).

$38 for a dinner for 2? What can you expect? You get what you pay for. There has to be independently owned restaurants around that can serve good food with having to go to the likes of golden coral, olive garden, or red lobster. Couldn't even imagine having to eat that kind of food.

Probably a division of walmart. Your taste buds have to be dead to eat there.

For $35-40 for two, I'd expect some pretty fine grub---not cafeteria fare.
Independent restaurants generally offer the best food, service and value.
Basque Hotels serve some of the best suppers there is!

38.00$ for two is cheap.
Try going to a truck stop.
East of the Mississippi..
In most of them you'll pay 30 bucks plus..for ONE.
They know they can screw the truck drivers over because it's the only place to park

We have one near us in Casa Grande, AZ. Don't eat there often, maybe twice a season. Food has always been pretty good - generally better than most other restaurants here. Outside of chain drive throughs, most places here can't make a decent sandwich or hamburger. Don't know how you'd have good ambiance in a buffet type restaurant tho. Surprisingly, only one Mexican restaurant here is worthwhile. But tough for private restaurants to make a go of it when most of the traffic is only here 3-4 months a year.
