I am not sure how much shooting I will do between now and later, when I either die or get put into a nursing home that won't let me have a bullet trap, and do my shooting. I do know that my .22 rimfire ammo seems to have a very long shelf life if stored properly, so even though I may not need it, I did order a case of the Eley at about $355. A competitive price these days for better than average standard velocity ammo. I do a lot of the 50 yard iron sight benchrest and my usual ammo is the old original Wolf Match Extra and SK Rifle Match, back when they were made by the same company. The Eley shoots almost as good as those. And when I bought those some years back they were about $700 a case.

EDIT - 72Coupe, I thank you for your encouragement below. As low as the total number is, just getting 49 of 50 onto the scoring rings is still a challenge.

With the scores you are shooting at 25, that goes to show just how tough 50 is. I need a LOT of practice just to get near your 25 yard scores.

Tried to shoot with the Redfield on the 513T I got recently. The front globe insert was way too tight, so I'll have to change it. I forgot about those kinds of things when I went a long time without shooting any peep type sights.

I'm thinking for offhand, the crosshair type thin inserts might do well. What kind of setup do you use for those scores you shoot?

I use a clear disc, small one for 50,and a bigger one for 25. I like to have some light around the bull.

********25 YD SCOPE ******************11/17/2020

SCORE:467-15X
NAME: Purple Bikerr (61)
LOCATION: Belleville, Wi
GUN: CZ 452 Scout
GUN SETUP:__x__Scope___Irons___Sling
AMMO:Aguila SEHV
INDIV TGTS: 94-2x, 95-3x, 93-2x, 90-2x, 95-6x

Very happy with this score. Wind was 10-15 mph from my 9:00. The x count is a personal best. My previous high x count was a 13.

The short barrel of the Scout makes this a real challenge. There's not a lot of mass up front to help keep the barrel still.

Well I finally shot one for score. I was determined to crack 400, but in hindsight I don't know why. The more I thought about it, the more it made me realize that I have probably NEVER shot more than 10-15 disciplined offhand shots back to back in my life. And really, the ones that I worried about were probably just back at the range in my military days.

I did some practice on a single target yesterday, and had a similar score but more Xs. I did find my groove some on timing, rest between shots, and all the little details that seemed to fit my style. When to remove the safety, when the finger hits the trigger first, breathing timing..... well it seems to all matter shooting offhand.

I still think I shoot quicker than most, probably a couple shots a minute on average at least. But I find that if I don't overthink it the sequence from raised rifle to follow through is fairly quick. If I slow down too much I seem to be less stable.

***25-Yd SCOPED ENTRY***
DATE: 11/22/20
SCORE: 428 2X
NAME Signmaster (Bob) AGE 57
LOCATION: Freedom Shooting Center Va Beach
GUN: Rossi RS 22 - bone stock
GUN SETUP: Simmons 22 mag 4x scope
AMMO: Armscor dirty crap!
INDIV TGTS SCORES: 85, 82 1 X, 88, 85 1 X, 88

Indoor range, few distractions. Finding my offhand groove. Not disappointed at all, still plenty of room for improvement. For the stock crunchy and somewhat long travel trigger, I'm pleased.

I recently acquired a 513T I hope to bring into the mix as soon as I get some front sight aperatures to play with and figure out what I like. The trigger and weight are so much better, but need to get used to it some.

Still amazed at the scores some of you are shooting. Regardless of equipment and practice time, IMHO anything over a consistent 250 or so shows a lot of shooting skill.

Without a doubt a much harder game than anything off a bench if you ask me.

Those shots came sooooo close to being a lot more 8s. Luck was on my side some today as well.
