Any real differences between the two Government contract groups? I have read that they were in groups of 10,000. The rifle I just bought is from the second group apparently as it's serial number is in the 15,000's. Most I have seen and read about are from the first batch of 10,000.

The only difference I know of is that the government paid less per rifle in the second group.

Mine doesn't have a crown like that. Don't know which group mine came in. Guess I ought to go check.

But are the sights in the same plane? Front/rear on my rifle are \ ...../ ; there is no possible way mine could shoot to the sights at more than one fixed distance. Change the distance to target by a foot, & the sights will be off left or right; physics will not be denied!

Ah well, hopefully PT Barnum's favorite customer is out there just dying for a CMP-papered Kimber 82G...

I had 2 of them. 1 from the first group and 1 from the second group. I kept the one from the second group as it shot better.

I got three of them

I was so impressed with the first one I got a couple more. All of them shoot close to 1/4 inch at 50 yards with the correct ammo so I am a happy camper. haven't checked to see which group they came from.

Cranky

Mine doesn't anymore, Dave Manson's tool did a nice re-crown on it.

I bought two. One would not sight in with the metallic sights so my only solution was to buy a set of Burris rings with plastic inserts. Serial number 9321. it does not shoot very well

Second one (don't remember the SN) did sight in with the provided metallic sights and I gave it to a Junior shooter what was unable to afford a target rifle. He shot very well with in. He is now in the US Marines.

I bought two as well. One was a lower serial number the other in the 11,000"s.
They both shot excellent, just as good as my Anschutz 54 heavy barrel. I kept the higher serial numbered rifle because it has a absolutely beautiful walnut stock. I've noticed some of these 82G's have outstanding wood. I guess odd's are if you buy 20,000 stocks your bound to get some with fancy wood.
