What ammo does your rifle favor? I just purchased a 52D that should be here next week and have a bunch of CCI SV but am curious to see what others are using. I'll be using it for 50 yard bench rest and 25 yard offhand matches.

Thanks, Justin

I have a E rifle which essentially is a D but with a different crown. It really likes RWS R50 and R100.

Firearms in general and .22's especially are like people in what their preferred 'tastes' are.
Like raising a child you have to give them a taste of everything to see what they prefer.

They are all unique in what they prefer and I recommend trying ammunition which meets your shooting goal and price range.

I have a 52c

And it really likes sk pistol match special.

Probably likes the eley tenex and the top dollar lapua but that stuff is expensive. I get outstanding results with the pistol match special, the lot that I have, such that I do not see a need to go testing the high dollar stuff.

Crankster

I have a B, D, and E all of which get used in local club 50 yard matches. Frankly, if I shot only CCI SV in them I would be disappointed. While I like CCI SV for general shooting and plinking in my knock about sporters, it is not the ammo to test the accuracy potential of your gun.

As has already been stated, you need to experiment with the best ammo you feel you can reasonably afford to see what the gun can do. I have had goo results with Eley Match, Tenex, and Midas +, but of course, those are not cheap. But, as with most things, you generally get what you pay for. So, I guess is depends on ;your own pocket book and your own standards.....

Glenn, that's a tough call......I like them all. But I guess I lean towards the D/E single shot models. But that's primarily because I shoot them exclusively off the bench where a magazine clip is not an asset. Additionally, the barrel band on the B is of no value to me from a functional viewpoint....I currently have it off. If I was a pure collector or used the guns for varmint hunting, I'm sure I would view things a little differently....maybe. The D/E micromotion trigger is way ahead of the factory B trigger for my tastes. Most of the Cs were like the later B models, so I view them about the same.

That said, and as I have said before, I put a premium on accuracy, so I rank the E slightly ahead of the D and B (in my collection). The feed ramp on the E works well, whereas folks with the D models are familiar with the aggravation of the factory feed ramp. But all three have won matches and have shot 250 on the IR 50 target in competition. The B shows a lot of promise, but the trigger is a bit of a hindrance. My E is a really early one and for all practical purposes is a D that was issued with an E stock and had E stamped on the serial number. Not drilled and tapped on receiver, no recessed crown, etc. But it sure can shoot. If I don't get at least one 250 out of two IR 50 targets at a match with it, I'm disappointed. But I do like them all. I feel fortunate to have found three that shoot as well as they do.

52 Winchesters are not as finicky as some of the other match rifles and seem to shoot well with just about any standard velocity ammo.

But REALLY perk up when you feed them the Eley, RWS, Lapua, etc.....when you are into that quality of ammo you start reaching a point of diminishing returns as they will all shoot VERY well.

My 52 D REALLY shoots well with my diminishing supply of Russian Temp and gets even better with Eley Tenex.

Don't know if that helps you or not....the CCI 0032 Standard Velocity will get you started however.

Randy

Thanks Randy. I hope it shoots the CCI SV decent as I have 12-13,000 rounds of it, lol. My rifle will be here tomorrow so I'll start some testing soon, I hope.

Cci sv.

Do not want to dissapoint you but my 52c has such a wonderfully tight chamber that it is difficult to close the bolt on cci sv.
