My 52D US marked rifle SN is 120066D. Unfortunately the bolt is not number matching.

Thanks for the number. It is a new one for the database. Is your gun U.S. marked on receiver? How about stock, does it have the military oil finish and rear swivel?

Thanks Steve,
I didn't see it here so I posted it.
I'd sure love to find out who the stockmaker is.
Thomas Shacklett's widow and his long time shooting buddy are trying to get me more information and they're trying to find me a list of matches he shot with this rifle and at least a picture of him and hopefully one of him with this rifle.
I've spoken to Robert Szweda at RMS Custom Stocks about possibly stripping the original varnish from the stock and refinishing it but I'm uncertain what effect that would have as far as collectibility for someone down the line after I leave this world.
Do you have any ideas on that?

Larry, I would have it refinished if you are so inclined. If anything it will probably add to value. Custom rifles like this are different animals than the factory original guns. Once they have been modified like yours the original collector value is gone. Now it become's what someone is willing to pay for a highly modified example such as yours. I have a bunch of rifles such as yours, 52's, 37's, 40X's, Benny's, Morgans etc etc., and many were used hard as they were intended, and showed it. I evaluate each one and decide then if and how much to restore. If I were a potential buyer, your rifle would be more appealing if tastefully restored. That include a stock refinish, a light slick up of barrel exterior w/o removing Hart's stamping, possible recrown if necessary, beadblast and repolish cast aluminum accessories, refurbish bolt and reblue receiver to clean up residual rust from storage. The key is to do it tastefully and make it look like it just left the Hart shop.

Just got a 52C from GunBroker yesterday, Brand new condition. Looks like it just came from the New Haven factory. Not a ding and the bluing is perfect. $1500. I sold mine 20 years ago for $100. Serial number 89792C. I'll see if it shoots as well as it looks on Thursday.

I'm curious to see if you have my original 52C on file. 94083C. I used this one through High School and College.

Sorry, I do not keep a history on the C's, just the D's and E's. Congratulations on your newest acquisition.

US , just received about 2 hrs ago . Just cleaned the dried oil off , mostly off . I can email pics I took a few days ago .
Gary
I had a chance to buy 2 I opted for the dark stock , the other was in the 112000 range , both unfired . no sights but worth it in my opinion.

Pics would be great. Never heard of an unfired U.S. Property D. I am always skeptical when I hear "unfired". We need to keep in mind, they were all fired at the factory.
Thanks, Steve

Yes , I agree , both . Unfired , seller had 2 , I took the higher of the 2 ser num . Other had light stock . A Dr owned these and was on the US shooting team long documented path . A private walk by hi thou the inventory . Have seen old pics and these 2 rifles in hand with about another 4-5 he was choosing from . He took pics of ser # and packed guns away till last week . Also had signed paperwork , he kept all documents.
I've been in the trade all my life , mostly military collection and owner of a few gunshops . I'm always skeptical of a thing related to New ,custom , unfired or rare .
He doesn't want his name released but we have a 4 page bill of sale . His requirements, not mine .
Tell me what you think . No bolt numbers , I borescope and has nothing to indicate use . Flat unblued crown .
Thanks , Gary MacDonald

Pics sent .
I've turned a new friend on to the other 52D
