Just a heads up everyone, I recently bought 1k minimags and I have had 3-5 per 100 of the rims blow out from the back of the case. Scary stuff when trying to introduce new shooters with ruger mk ivs. I used the rest of the ammo in a single 6, to get rid of it, but you might want to be cautious of minimags. Im not sure of the lot numbers (I dont see them on the cases) but they were bought in Phoenix.

The lot number is on the forward left side of the box between the red CCI and the mini- mag name. It is hard to see and it is stenciled into the plastic with little black lines making up the number. All my mini-mags are stamped this way. It is just above the glare from the camera flash up near the sliding cover.

I'd expect something like that from Winchester ammo but not CCI, their ammo quality has always been high and consistent.
I haven't bought any Mini-Mags in several years, but my stash is getting low and I was thinking about getting some more soon.

I'd let CCI know, at the very least they'd want to check a sample of your ammo and reimburse you.
Just out of curiosity, what lot number do you have, so we'll know to avoid those ?
Must be a weakness around the rim, I'd think even excessive headspace wouldn't cause the rim to blow off.

So they fired O.K. in the Single Six ? Or did that happen with it too ?
If it only happened in your MK IV, then maybe the ammo isn't the problem.

I'd recover some of the cases that didn't separate and examine them for clues.

Did the ammo you shot in your singe six suffer case separation as well?

Blown rims can be the first indication of excessive headspace. BTDT (with a WMR, actually). Advice to try ammo in different firearms is good. As is advice to recover non-ruptured cases and look them over carefully for incipient rupture.

Sure did. Thats what made me believe it was an ammo issue not a firearm issue.

I suspect your ammo was manufactured on November 17, 2018. Here's an old RFC post from my archive:

"CCI ammo lot codes:

first letter in the lot code is month (A thru M, skipping I)
A - Jan
B - Feb
...
skip I
...
M - Dec

the next 2 numbers are the day of the month (1-31)

the second letter represents the year. ( starting in 1995 with letter A, skip I and O)

2010 - R
2011 - S
2012 - T
2013 - U

The 2 boxes of Quiets I bought today are stamped:
K17T23 = Oct 17, 2012"

You should definitely let CCI know. If you have any left they will probably ask you to send them in so they can check them.

I had some bad .22 rounds from Federal once, and a box of .308s from Winchester once. Both companies wanted them back, then reimbursed me for the ammo and taxes.
