Ok guys/gals.
I purchased several boxes of Winchester 17hmr XTP 20 grain.
Almost all , after firing had split cases and had to be pushed out of the chamber with a cleaning rod, why ? I even had some that the round was not seated in the case and gun powder was spilling out of them, why ?
I also had some CCI A17 and CCI 17 hmr and did a comparing between CCI and Winchester.
CCI--- not 1 split case.
Anyone help me out with what caused the split cases and other bad rounds.
I would contact Winchester (photos and lot # would help) and they will probably replace it. They probably won’t offer a refund, quality control is the problem.
Winchester rimfire has developed a reputation for less than desirable quality
with it's production of 22lr, 22wmr and 17hmr cartridges. Poor accuracy,
cartridge defects have become the expected results of purchasing those cartridges.
Same issues up here in Canada regarding the split; no extraction issues with my CZ 455. Accuracy really sucked too; 3" at 100 yards; CCI and Hornady <3/4".
I returned couple boxes and received a refund. But that was old stuff. Thought they had it figured out by now. I had cases that were split right from factory. Baaaad stuff.
I bought some 17gr and 20 gr at Walmart in Canada, they actually shoot right up there with the Hornady, which is my reference, at about -.7-1" at 100 y. both out of a Sako Quad and a 1517 Anni. No extraction issues or split cases with a total of three boxes.
And they come at 14$ CAN which is the cheapest by far, hornady/CCI/Federal run at 17-21$ for a box of 50
