I've built a number of swap cylinder K & N frames years ago when I was in the business. 22-22mag and 45acp-45 Colt were very popular in the eighties. Some fitting and hand ratchet work was always necessary and worst case I'd have to set the barrel back to close the gap. But six to ten chambers is another challenge altogether.

First off ten chambers and corresponding cylinder extractor ratchets will call for a shorter hand since the pick up distance on ten holes will be closer or shorter than six. The hands may be a different design entirely ( never worked on one ) and therefore the hand window of the frame may be the wrong length, too narrow or too wide all of which will prevent the hand from engaging the ratchets to properly turn and time the cylinder. I would also wonder/suspect the trigger will not work as the trigger activates the hand and of course regulates the distance traveled. The trigger also regulates travel of the cylinder lock so I'm thinking these guns are a different lock work design to a certain extent.

So just spitballing here but I think a swap job like this will require fitting new cylinder with proper gap and new ten star extractor, new hand, maybe some frame mods to hand window, new trigger and cylinder stop and ?? I guess it's also possible that if the trigger is a major redesign that a new hammer could be on the menu but like I said I'm spitballing. I doubt Springfield will sell you the parts unless you're on their list of approved gunsmiths ( if they still have one )

Rick

It's possible for sure, but I wouldn't do it.

I have a 6" 6-shot and a 4" 10 shot... it's nice to have variety, plus the 6 shot reminds me of the first S&W 22 I ever shot... my Dad's model 18.
