Brown Lam Stock and Stainless?

I'm on a 597 kick...

Checking the net on my rifle, I have found versions of this rifle described as having stainless barrels. Mine is silver colored. These are not really stainless are they? I mean, looking at it, I'd say it's painted silver.

Anybody know for sure? Would Remington paint stainless steel?

Pretty sure they're not painted but either ss or nickel plated.

Some say matte/satin finished stainless, sure ain't nickel plated.

What about blued barrels? Stainless for as I know can be blued but there are issues...can't see Remington going to the trouble.

Online chat with Remington confirms that mine is indeed stainless...they looked up my serial number. Rifle was manufatured in April of 1998...stainless barrel.

Which begs the question, how does it do on paper with better ammo?

I have not had it out in a long time. When I first got it, it was all over the place. Changed out the factory hammer. In my opinion at the time, the fastener for the barrel/receiver was over-torqued, so that got loosened, and experimented with various brands of ammo. So after some fiddling I was getting pretty much cloverleafs at 50 yrds with CCI Mini Mags.

Since it has this silver satin (stainless!) finish, I had a silver Simmons 22 Mag scope on it. It now sports a Leupold 3x0-32 with an adjustable objective. But man, I just can't seem to find the time to get out and play with it. The Leupold might be overkill...thinking about putting the Simmons back on.
