Thank you. You’re just being nice. I think it’s pretty ugly. 😝 I don’t much care about looks when I’m shooting though. I have a prettier 457 MTR en route.

My wife would say I am never nice, Appalachian.
While the wood stocks do add a more pleasing look, with some having amazing grain, I also like the chassis styles. New to the shooting sports and only have the one rifle but would love to add a wood stocked one down the road.

Managed to print some targets today. I have a rem 541 to shoot in factory, but not sure about unlimited. I have a 77/22 that has been Re barreled and re stocked , Both none ruger not sure about the trigger. Would it qualify as a unlimited for these matches?

Hi Sg1911 and glad to see another shooter join the group. I am sure that Chuck, the admin, will respond.

My understanding of the rules would certainly allow your 77/22 in the "unlimited" class as it is wide open to everything that doesn't fit the rules for "factory". We don't seem to have any shooters with full custom benchrest rigs yet but would be nice to build the unlimited class with a variety. I started out listing as unlimited as I had purchased a new front rest and it was set up with a 3" bag so attached a bag rider to my stock, making it modified and therefore unlimited class. After my smaller bag came in I was able to remove the bag rider and switch to factory class.

This group seems to be all about having fun so happy to have you on board.

From what I read from your comments, your asking about if the Ruger 77/22 that has been re barreled and restocked works for the unlimited class. Yes it would fit right in.

Come on out and shoot. Just remember to check your target to make sure it printed the correct size.

Sure do, prints on 8.5x11 paper, best to print on a card stock (heavy weigh paper). Click on the target image and tell your computer to download it, then set your printer at 100% and print. Check the measurement of the largest scoring ring. It should measure right at 1 in. Or you could take a copy of the file to someplace and have it printed. And another OR if you have any ARA Unlimited targets you could use those.

Happy shooting

What do you think gents?

Today snuck off to the range, actually my wife told me to leave for a little while. Think I was getting on her nerves.

Grabbed the CZ 457 I have been using here. Shot some targets, 4 actually. Came home and scored them. Would like your thoughts on the scoring. The best one scored 2250. Look the target over to make sure I am not giving myself extra points. This is why I like using the target scorning program I have, only kicker is the targets have to be printed in blue for the program to work. I have a B&W laser printer only. So give me your thoughts. Second photo is my scoring plug, should I think about getting another one.

Nice target, Chuck.

Still new to the scoring myself and always question if I am doing it right.

Just as an exercise, I printed your target and verified outer lines to be at 1". Then used an "Eagle Eye" gage to look at the closer ones since a printed image won't work with an actual plug gage. To my eyes number 14 was the only one close and with the gage shows in.

Kind of a fun experiment.

Robert

Well you can see how high tech my scoring gage is.

After measuring a bunch of scoring gauges for my ranges monthly USBR match we found this one to be the only one that actually measured .224.

https://www.killoughshootingsports.c...ring-plug.html
Its accuracy is stated to be .224 plus or minus .0005.
We measured 5 of them, and all of them were .224 on the button.

We purchased 50 of them to hand out.

The Hughes Precision wasn't one of them, so I can't comment on its accuracy.

Smooth

Im going to post up all of the devices we have tried, and how we use them to score our matches this coming week on this thread.
It will include comments on other gauges, the Eagle Eye, and different magnifying glasses.
Stay tuned.

Big difference between 25 and 50 yards!

I took the target out to 50 yards getting some practice for an ARA club match, on Wednesday. (Only the second time I have shot in a match.) I will be shooting the easier "Factory" target so I figured practice on this one will get me ready.

Factory, 50 yards
Screen Name: Pipes1 Name: Robert
Rifle: CZ 457 Varmint Precision Chassis, Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56, Ammo: SK Rifle Match, Score: 1625
SEB Mini front rest, Protektor rear bag.
Weather: Mild winds and 70 degrees.
