Does anyone have experience with a semiauto 17Mach2? Looks like Volquartsen is no longer offering that round except in the Summit. Was it just not popular or was it a problem child?

I called asking about the Summit in 17Mach2--a pretty interesting gun. I then asked about the semi auto in the same caliber and was told it was discontinued do to lack of ammunition availability.

This made me wonder why they would not resurrect the semiauto, when they started the production of the Summit in 17HM2. I asked questions about the semiauto, it seemed like they did not want to go in that direction.

Wink

I have a VQ HM2 semi auto with a carbon fiber barrel. It’s incredibly accurate.
I don’t think HM2 is a popular round. A couple years ago I bought several thousand rounds, just in case.

It’s a tweener round that doesn’t do anything better than a .22 mag, but is not as good as the HMR.

Wow, not better than a 22 mag? Flatter trajectory, generally better accuracy, cheaper to shoot and it's the king of squirrel hunting rounds. That's my opinion though....

I have a CZ455 with a 17HM2 barrel on it and it is a great gun. Was out just yesterday shooting Whistle Pigs with it and had a great time. Zero recoil so you can watch your shots.

I contacted my LGS about ordering a Summit 17m2 this evening. They are going to check if their distributors have one in stock Monday. Hoping to pick one up for a tree squirrel gun.

Savage is now selling a budget model semi-auto 17HM2 if you want to try it before investing in an expensive rifle.
