No. 4A Peep Question

Log in to see fewer ads
I have a Mossberg Model 46 that came with the No 4A peep sight and the #6 scope. My question is about the peep sight.

It turns pretty loosely, but I don't see any change while looking through the peep. It's loose to the point where it pushes in a little, and I can kind of hear grinding when I turn it while pushed in. If there is supposed to be something inside that opens and closes the sight's aperture, it's not working.

Are there any exploded diagrams of the 4A peep aperture?

Some pics:

Once they get a little age and lack of oil used, they tend to wear on the internals. You will have to push inwards and rotate at the same time for it to work. Spray it with a good lubricant and let it sit for awhile before trying to adjust it.

Thank you for that. Part of my brain was thinking... can't be that hard to open, clean, fix and reassemble.

Bought one close to that shape.
Soak for several days, then try it. Repeat until it moves then try mineral oil until it turns smoothly. Mine works great now.

Ditto on the 'do not disassemble'
