I think ? I have it done. Hopefully it's correct.
I put together a liberty training rifle.
Like I've been googling and reading .
Also on the Appleseed web.

Tech Sights TSR100
was my first upgrade.

The barrel is the stainless wally world 22"

The stock is a plain Jane vanilla Sporter stock with one inch swivels.

Appleseed sling.. ONE INCH .. cotton web..G.I. sling. ...it's exactly like my 1.25 M1 sling.. except it's only one inch wide.

Old Ruger receiver and the older metal trigger that Randy worked over..(it's sweet)
And factory bolt that Randy worked over.

I think I'm set..
Any suggestions from you Appleseed folks ?

Have you done this correctly? In a word, "yes". There are lots of nice-to-haves you can add/drop to a 10/22 to make it a nice Appleseed rifle as you like, but they're not really necessary (until you decide they are). Sights and sling (particularly, Tech Sights and a GI sling)? You're set. Put the rest of your effort into shooting it well and don't fuss the equipment.

Thanks Control.
And I see that was your first post.
Welcome to RFC.
Biggest bunch of enablers in the world 😜

Yes... I think they'll work ok.
I set up my Mannlicher the same way.

Appreciate the feedback.

Pics! We need pics! Even a basic rifle deserves a little celebratory pic.

I’m all about the basic LTR, but my Tech-Sights got usurped by a 3-9x40 scope. In the attached pic I am in the foreground. Note the sad T-S front sight, no longer fulfilling its purpose. (No disrespect to T-S.)

Now, get to work on those 1” squares, Redcoats, and AQTs. Have a blast!

It's definitely in my future plans!
Question? What does AQTs mean ?
I'm a newbie on this Appleseed stuff.
Just ordered one more ONE INCH
G.I. sling.
Thanks for the support!

Fair enough, amigo. The AQT is the Appleseed Qualification Test. But you know what, sign up for that first Appleseed. You’ll be a different shooter from then on.

If you do spring for some targets, get the booklet ‘Guide to Rifle Marksmanship’, too. Good info in there, which the instructors will go over in your Appleseed clinic. And, on targets, I also use 1” black or orange dots in lieu of 1” squares sometimes. You can buy them in bunches.

Thanks for the warm welcome.

The only thing that crossed my mind that I have done to my own rifles is an auto bolt release. This is nice-to-have but not essential if you're comfortable manipulating the bolt lock/release on a 10/22.

Nice Betsy Ross! Was that by chance in Ohio (I think I recognize that range)?

Sounds pretty much like the rifle I started using over 11 years ago, qualified at my first Appleseed with it. Later, with my eyesight going south, started using a rifle with a 28.5 inch barrel, a CZ 452 UL with Brno Sport sights. My farsighted eyes needed that extra length. The CZ helped me to keep shooting with irons for a few more years. Now I have a 3x9 rimfire scopes on all of my Appleseed .22 rifles. Anyhow, sounds like you're well armed.

Lol, yes, in Piqua. Great bunch of instructors. The Betsy Ross is a Gadsden and Culpepper velcro flag. I figured if I needed a cheek riser I might as well decorate it, for my own motivation. On the other side is an Indiana flag patch to match : )

Yes... I've done the Auto bolt release modification.
Thank you for the tips!
I was a little bit worried about using the 1" sling instead of the 1.25 sling..
On another web site.. someone said they are fine. Use em.
Course that made me happy for my Mannlicher.
Now we shoot the heck out of them.

P.s.

Also , put the factory extended magazine release's back on..
About as basics as I can get.
Only bought another set of Tech Sights.
And two 1" G.I. slings.
I had everything else.
So I got by really cheep this time.
Still can't get over these Tech Sight, slings.
17 bucks.. cannot beat that with an aluminum baseball bat.

A 1.25" sling is better than a 1" sling. the narrower sling will force its way deeper into your arm, hurt more, and transfer more pulse into your shooting. But appleseed is about learning the fundamentals, so either sling will work fine for learning the fundamentals. If you decide you like positional shooting, then cmp rimfire sporter is a great way to make use of your new skills.

That's the one! Small world... I've instructed at Piqua many times and they indeed have an outstanding crew (regardless of whether or not I'm there).

Buckweet, good to go on the auto bolt mod. While I'm more partial to the 1.25" GI slings, if your attaches securely, adjusts correctly, and has the correct hardware (It sounds like it does all of those), it won't hold you back.

I'm in the crowd that now uses either 1-4 or 3-9 most of the time, but shot my first Rifleman score on a tech-sighted 10/22, very much like the one described in the first post. Not to give insult, but if someone doesn't make the score with that rig, it's (generally) not the rifle.

Managed to find a M16A1 sling adapter.
Just simply tied it to the sling loop on the Mannlicher.
With Paracord.
Now we have a 1.25 cotton web sling on the Mannlicher.
And a homemade cheek riser.
I think I'm done.

Two cheap and easy mods that I would recommend are an auto bolt release and extended magazine release.

While this is not a speed shooting event like Steel Challenge, there are magazine changes on the clock so both can help with that.

While most of the stages allow for plenty of time, the second stage when transitioning from standing position to sitting position with 55 seconds on the clock doesn't sound like any rush for time,, but if you are an old duffer like me, just going from standing to sitting and getting on target burns up about 20 of those seconds before even getting the first shot off, so anything that makes that process smoother helps.
