Rem. 547 Target value ?

Looking for a ballpark value on a used but excellant condition 547 target built in the Dakota shop in South Dakota. I have been looking at one on consignment in a local gun shop, but not certain what it may be worth ? Does not have the hard case as far as I know.

Thanks

We really need to know a bit more about it. If you could possibly post a photo, that would help a great deal. Generally, anything made/finished by Dakota is top notch and brings good money, so it could be worth anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 depending on a lot of factors.

It looks to be the basic 547 target with heavy 18" barrel. I have not handled it - only seen pictures, but appears to be in excellant shape with rather straight grained walnut. It is about 100 miles from where I live, so before I commit to drive to look it over - just looking for a basic value. I believe they are $1,599 new - maybe a bit more. It looks to have a Weaver T24 scope on it.

Thanks

All of the 547s were made in the custom shop at Remington before the move to Dakota, so the workmanship has always been excellent on the few I've seen. I saw one that sounds like it was very close to what you are describing at a gun show about 2 years ago and IIRC, it was priced at around $1100. I passed, but wish I had taken it home....

Now that Remington is changing hands again and there seems to be some discussion about what is going to happen to the Dakota/Remington custom shop may impact prices...

Yep, makes me wonder if prices will go up or down on custom shop guns.

Well, 547's have always been in very short supply and being a custom shop gun, a very long wait if you ordered one. If you really want one and you see one for sale, you probably ought to snatch it up quick or it will be gone....

I have one of those 547 target models in 17hmr it is a nice shooting gun and sits on the rest well. I would recommend purchasing one.
