Is the 540X same as 540XR just a different stock? Any feed problems? Any info would be great.
Thanks

Same gun, different stock. Single shot, so solid bottom action - no magazine. Long barrel - 27 3/4" I believe. Usually very accurate with mid to high grade ammunition. Trigger is adjustable. Worth more if you can find one with original Refield open sights & hand stop.

I have a 540XR, it has functioned flawlessly and is extremely accurate. Im 71 and can shoot dime size 5 round groups at 50 yards with aperture sights. To the best of my knowledge the X and XR are identical and not many ( compared to the 541/581 ) were made. If I har an opportunity to pick up an X Id jump on it.

Good Luck

I have a 540X and also the XR. Both of mine the barrel measures 26" right to the bolt face. There is a XRJR with a shorter barrel length. They are awesome rifles and shoot as well as rifles that cost much more. Feed and ejection is flawless. The match chambers are really tight getting CCI standards chambered. My XR I keep CCI away from it because it is really hard to close the action with them. The X will close on CCI but still on the tight side. I use RWS and SK and have no issues with either one. If the screw holding the loading platform gets loose you can some times loose the loading platform and they can be a little pricey and hard to find. I have the dog leg Redfield sight and the original front for the X model and the hand stop. My XR is late enough to have the Williams FP sight. I like the Williams FP just as well as the Redfield.

Bandit, on the loading platform you can drill out and tap to a larger screw then loc-tite. It won't go anywhere after that.

I did that to mine and it has held up well so far. Thanks for posting that on here. It will help other owners.
