Any straight razor shavers in the room...?

Strange days. Lasses at the local were discussing the qualities they found attractive in men.

Riveting stuff.

Lively, passionate discussion. Among les femmes, anyway. Apparently, I could be much higher on the sexiness totem by simply shaving my face with a knife. It's true. They found the very act of a man, stripped to the waist, removing facial hair with a straight razor..."sexy".

Not one to be left wanting when it comes to the fine art of manliness, I am left wondering if modern man has come up short here.

Discuss.

I would lop my head off in the sink if I tried that.

better get a case.....

...of styptic pencils beforehand.

I saw my Dad do this a time or 2, but even he generally used his Norelco.

This falls in the same category as pulling your own teeth.

My son decided to have his hair cutter/beard trimmer do his face with a straight razor. Never again he said. He was embarassed to go to work with all the scabs on his face.

I used to when my chin hair was soft and easy to shave, but in later years I realised that growing a beard saved a LOT of effort and danger.

Still have the razor - Joseph Rodgers and Sons, 6 Norfolk Street, Sheffield. Fabulous steel, haven't used it in MANY years but it's still ready to slice.

Do any of the "lasses" shave their legs with a straight razor?

Good Lord, NO. Why would anyone subject themselves to that in this day and age? I use one of those five blade buzzing Gilletes. After a hot shower I can hear the whiskers being cut but barely feel them and I haven't cut myself in so long I can't remember when it was that I did.

I've drawn blood with an electric razor. Straight razor ... no thanks. The wife wouldn't even bother to call 911. She'd just call the funeral home.

I used to use the multi bladed razors but they got too expensive. For the past several years I've been using a shaving scuttle, brush, and double edged safety razor. Bought eight years of blades (100 blade package) for a total of $10 on Amazon.

After WWII my folks were in a displaced persons camp, my Dad crafted a straight razor from an outer wheel bearing of a Mercedes. Had the only razor in the camp, the women would come to him to have their legs shaved..........gone now....bless his soul.

Well now, that's interesting. They actually said, out loud, what they found attractive in men, in front of men.

IT'S A TRAP!!!

Dude, they were PUBLICLY LYING in an effort to get men to bleed to death!!!

Devious critters......

A long time ago a buddy at work started getting extremely close shaves. I asked him about it. He had been a collector of straight razors for years, but had never used them. So, he decided to give it a go.

I got roped into trying it a few times. There are necessary skills to be learned. I've been able to sharpen knives to a razor edge since I was eleven years old, thanks to my Dad and Papaw. So getting a straight razor sharp enough was no big deal.

I learned one seriously important detail from my buddy at work as I nearly replicated his mistake.

When working on the side of your face, always pay attention to how close that looooong blade is to your earlobe!!!

Some mistakes are only made ONE TIME.

For me it was too time consuming. Then I wrecked my back again and have kept a beard for a couple of years since I didn't want to lean over the sink. I'm not really a beard guy, it'll go away eventually.

And when it does, there will be a five bladed razor taking care of bidness thereafter!

I can remember my dad switching from a straight razor to a Gilette double edged safety razor when I was a little kid. He got one shave out of one blade. Then they brought out the blue blade I believe it was called and managed two shaves with it. My grand dad used a straight razor all his life. Both of them had very heavy black beards and had 5 o'clock shadow by noon time. I didn't inherit quite as difficult to shave bunch of facial hair and am glad I did not. I have both of their straight razors and you couldn't pay me to try to shave with one.
