Well, after 18 surgeries, numerous endoscopy's and 2 colonoscopy's, I have no fear of being put under.

Woke up during my first. Back to sleep I went. No biggie.

Just had my second one a couple months ago, another 10 year hiatus.

I had an endoscopy on my knee after my accident in '86. I was put under for that.

I will never forget the feeling of suddenly being unable to breathe, totally paralyzed, and unable to signal/speak. I'm sure it was seconds, but it felt like a lifetime. When I came around, I was in shock.

I think the only other time was hernia repair in '97. 40min surgery turned into over 4hrs. Wife was "quite concerned" while sitting waiting!

They didn't even knock me out when they put a pin thru my Tibia (or take it out) to keep me on traction for 3 months. Heavily sedated but conscious. The nurses were all quite amused that I was saying they should get my dad to bring his Black-and-Decker instead of the manual brace drill they use for that kind of thing. The pin is the bit.

Same here - and I can get up and walk out afterwards. No anesthesia after effects, "Take me to the nearest Denny's!"

Afterwards I find a good place to eat too.

That scope goes 5 feet into your colon. I think I want to be asleep.

the place the wife and I go to has a little mom & pop sandwich shop in it and man do they pile the meat on the sandwich for what you pay and their mochas are excellent too. I think they put it there on purpose and probably make a killing selling to all the hungry people after their colonoscopies. The place has like a dozen beds and if they do one every half hour or so the sandwich place should do pretty well lol.

This is kind of topical for me. Today I am doing the second stage of cleanout for my scoping tomorrow and will be downing the 64 oz of Miralax final prep in a few hours. Besides the cleanout, not eating for a day and ahalf is not much fun either.

I have been doing annual colonoscopies (+EGDs the last few years) for about 14 years (kind of lost count now) as I have repeatedly had over 40 polyps removed each time. So far, no cancers found (just non-cancerous and pre-cancerous). Hoping that one day I will get to a 2, 3 or even 5 year schedule.

I had mine when I was 78 years old and they snipped off three. A friend had her's at age 70 and a medical mistake resulted in her death, so there is some risk in the procedure.

Is that why for me?? If so, when they did my colonoscopy in January they could not get past an inguinal hernia. I have since had the hernia repaired, so they want to do another colonoscopy. Probably because my last two, they find a small benign polup each time so, I figure they want to be safe. No sense in fooling around if insurance is going to pay, which I have to confirm.
