Grooved 511

Hello All,

I strolled into my local gun shop on my lunch hour today and there on the rack was a very nice Remington 511 with a grooved receiver. The stock has some scuffs but the finish appears to be original. There is a scratch or two on the bluing and it has almost 100% of the case coloring on the bolt shroud and trigger. It came with original sights and original butt plate as well as an original Remington marked 6 round magazine that looks like the day it was made. Overall the rifle looks to be a 90-95%. Date code is hard to read, starts with the letter "A" but the second letter will take some closer examination...looks to be the top of a "B" which would mean March of 1955. With a grooved receiver and not being an "X" model likely dates it mid to late 1950's.

I picked it up and never put it down. Walked out the door with it for $130.00

NICE! Pictures to follow!

Kix

It sure was Chuck! It sure makes for a pleasant lunch hour when this happens! It even made a quickie Burger King lunch go down pretty good! I'll likely mount a period Weaver 3/4" scope on it and let my grandsons enjoy plinking with it at the range.

Good snag Kix--but you've been playing with Winnies too much--that is a 6-round mag. Winnies have 5-rounders.

You guys are RIGHT!!! It is a 6 round mag! I have been playing with my 52 Re-issues and 69A's too much lately! BTW my latest 52 Re-issue rifle has arrived but I got a delay on my paperwork??? First time that has ever happened to me. It's weird, I got a delay on the 52 yesterday and I bought this 511 today and didn't have a hitch??? Go figure???

Kix, Well done Bro! Ya got a deal!

I always figured the point of the Remington 6-round mag was so when match shooting on paper, the first round was the barrel warmer for the sighter bull, then the next 5 were 1 each for the score bulls.

BTW, Brownells sells H.Q. Repop mags. Get a handful for your grandson.

Thanks Friend!

I always only load five rounds in these magazines anyway, I guess out of force of habit. I have about 20 or so 5-teen magazines if you count the originals and the repops. I think that will hold me for a while. I do pick up the originals when I see them at gun shows and such and they are priced affordably. The repops work just fine and there are plenty of them around. That is one of the things I really like about 5-teen rifles...plenty of good quality after market magazines that aren't expensive. I have always liked these rifles a LOT. For the money you simply cannot go wrong...all walnut and blued steel, accurate, easy and fun to shoot. Try walking into a sporting goods store and telling the guy behind the counter "Hey, I have about $150 to spend, I'd like to buy a rifle that has a genuine walnut stock, all blued steel construction, no plastic parts, oh and could you throw in a case hardened trigger and bolt shroud and one last thing, I'd like for it to be extremely accurate right out of the box!" The guy will look at you like you're nuts and tell you to save up about another $400.

Date Code on 511

Upon closer inspection with a magnifying glass the date code on the 511 I bought today is actually K E, which corresponds to May of 1958.

Excellent!
