9422M questions

Found one on consignment near me. I had one years ago and regretted selling it!
This one is a little different. No checkering on the stock. Did a little research that turned up pre XTR? Blueing is mottled all over and stock has the finisked scared.
Price is 300.
Thoughts please

If the rifle functions correctly and it will fire, then that is a great buy for that rifle. The wood can always be refinished. my 2 cents.

I saw one in that condition a couple years ago priced at $475. I went back to buy it a few days later and it was gone. If you want a 9422m you can take to the woods and not worry about scratching it, that is a good buy.

Probably won't find a lower price on one that is in decent shape and ready to take hunting.

Thank you. Forgot to add, it has an older 3x9 Tasco!
Might go ahead and make this a new project. I have redone a few in the past and really like a hand rubbed oil finish

Just saw your thread. If it functions well and rifling is good, buy it if you haven't already.

The early ones were not checkered - XTR or not. I have an early 9422M that is not checkered but is still labeled as an XTR. At that price, assuming it is in good working order with a good bore, I would snag it pronto.

In agreement with previous posters. If the rifle has no defects other than normal wear and some stock dings, it's a definite buy at that price.

I also agree, unless the rifle has some sort of irredeemable defect, I would buy it without hesitation. Those 9422M's are magnificent rifles, even if it is just a shooter grade. Smoother than butter and a delight to carry in the field.
