Question Couple of 45 long colt questions/gas checks

Just bought a rossi 24" octagon 45lc and wanted to reload. I have experience reloading 5.7x28 fn. but have no experience loading cast bullets. I hope to use unique powder (if I can find it) and 250gn rnfp laser cast bullets. My question is what are gas checks and do I need to put them in when I load this ammo?

You won't need them at 45 colt velocities and they won't fit those bullets

Gs checks are used to keep from leading a barrel with cast bullets when exceeding certain velocities. They are installed when sizing the bullets. Buying cast from a company like Lasercast you do not need to worry about installing them yourself, if they were needed they would do it themselves. Installing would be up to you if you were doing the casting.

If using Lasercast you will find they are extremely hard and no, at 45 colt velocities you do not need them.

As an aside, it would be worth your time to look up casting, what it takes to understand what you are working with. The endless trivia of firearms and ammo can really enhance your hobby.

I never use gas checks in my .45 Colt. Good hard-cast bullets at those velocities don't need them. Mine have been from Leadheads for 20 years.
